Browser Compatibility

There are many different web browsers in common use today, each with their own quirks and strengths. Your website can look quite different when moving from one web browser to another. We work hard to make your website look the same in all the popular web browsers whilst preserving the sophisticated look of your web design.

The way we do that is by utilising web standards. HTML/XHTML and CSS web standards define how web browsers should behave, and by making your website comply with these standards we can make it behave well in most popular web browsers.

There are exceptions — notably Microsoft Internet Explorer, and especially IE6. It has its own quirks and needs to be treated a little bit differently. We manage that by creating special style sheets to adjust for Internet Explorer, and use portable javascript code when writing dynamic web pages, to help keep the experience the same for all your website visitors.

To ensure that your website really does work correctly in the popular web browsers, we test it in all of the most commonly used ones. Here’s a list of the desktop web browsers we are currently testing all websites in, covering the vast majority of website visitors:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 7, 8, 9
  • Mozilla Firefox version 10
  • Apple Safari 5.1
  • Opera 11
  • Google Chrome 17

By arrangement, we can also test in other web browsers and older versions (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla Firefox 3-8, uncommon web browsers like Konqueror and Midori, etc.)

In addition to desktop web browsers, we can also make your website accessible for visitors using mobile web browsers like the iPhone and Android phones.
